Since I'm a working man I only own working man guns!! I have a Stevens 311 12 ga, a Stevens 5100 16 ga. an Iver Johnson hercules grade 20 ga and a Stevens 311 .410 ga gun

Since I paid an average fo 300$ for these I believe they qualify. They all shoot good enough to bring home the bacon so I love them even if I long for a true gentleman's gun someday.

The memory of the hunt is as good with these as they are with the classier guns

Happy hunting

My dad's work guns were an M-1 Garand followed by a carbine when he made sergeant. He said that was enough guns for him. My first "double" was an Ithaca 37 in 20 ga. IC, no rib. Single trigger, so I moved my left hand instead of my right to make it double.

My father's "working man's shotgun" was a M/W Western Field Mod. 52 (Stevens 311) 16ga. with a Tenite stock. As an 18 year old kid, he bought it new in '48. As a kid I thought it was the "ne plus ultra" in shotguns. I remember cronies of his chiding him in his choice of guns as they cradled their Stevens/Remington/Winchester pumps which in that area (central Pa.)were considered state of the art. As he matured, other more sophisticated examples of the gunmakers art passed through his hands but that plastic stocked 16ga. remained his "go-to" gun.
Could be why I'm partial to 16 gauge doubles.
(P.S. that gun resides in the place of honor in my safe today. Once a year she goes afield with me on a sentimental journey. It's the gun I hope to carry one day on "The Road to Tinkhamtown.")

A no tweed zone with this '27 Sterlingworth 12g.
It was the last couple of days of ducks last year, and this gun's first outing.
Vintage farmer, to be sure!

One day ol' Lowell woke-up, started to fly the flag everyday, bought two entry level Foxes(SW&AE) and now drinks Old Crow(I know, I know).
There's something about these guns!

Thanks TW. I just bought a 16 ga. last week so I'm half way to a set. I'll be lurking E bay again for that special piece of wood for it too.

Your right Lowell...there is something about these guns. Maybe we should keep it to ourselves though or we won't be paying $200.00 for them very much longer.
