I buy mine at a local tack shop. A tack shop is where we buy saddles and bridles for horses. It's also where I buy the handmade boots I wear so I use what my boot maker recommends. Properts is put out by the Kiwi company, the makers of shoe polish. It is a cleaner, leather conditioner, and water repelent all in one.

Unfortunately, in most of southern KA, we can't buy Stoddard, paint thinner, mineral spirits, low odor mineral spirits, lacquer thinner, methyl ethyl ketone, xylene/xylol, denatured alcohol, or anything else that actually works for its intended purpose. There are new formulations on the market that are called paint thinner and lacquer thinner, but they are mostly acetone now and don't work worth a crap. There are still a few exceptions for some high altitude locations and certain professions, but they are getting scarce. Some of the restrictions vary by county and/or by line of business, but good solvents are, for the most part, gone, as are good finishing products. I am hoarding what I can find, and have been known to drive great distances to acquire what I need. I have heard stories from usually reliable sources about commercial painters being fined up to $25K for using the "wrong" solvents on jobs in Los Angeles County. These are solvents that you can still find in parts of Ventura and San Diego counties. It's just getting worse and worse around here.

I use Renapur. It puts a bit of life back into dry leather and produces a nice sheen, which also waterproofs it.

You can polish the case with shoe polish after it has dried if you like.
