Recently I bought a large box of pink 1 1/8oz wads at an estate auction.
No name, but have a patent #3750579 - issued to Larry Bellington of Kansas City in 1973.
Claim is that they have a spreader effect.
Who made these?

No idea who made them. Probably limited distribution or perhaps only marketed it Canada? Have never seen one before. I'd think more 'spin' on the patent application than in real life. Are the petals still 'alive' or are they now brittle? If alive you could run a comparative test w/a wad like a AA and draw your on conclusion to the spreader effect claim.

Also, you may be able to get an answer from the reloading forum on shotgun world, if you don't get one here.

The petals are soft.
I have used some, and other shooters tell me the wads come out all spread out and spinning.
Have not patterned with them so can't say whether they work as claimed.

It was called a "Spin Wad"...I loaded them in the '70s for ATA 1 1/8 stuff. Have no idea if they really worked, but it sounded good at the time. Google and you may find some data.

Yes. I loaded Spin Wads for 1 1/8 No 9 skeet shells in the 70s too.
We used to shoot in the winter here for fun, and at -20oC those wads went quite brittle and broke up on ignition. The ultimate blooper!
