James and William Tolley started out in 1859 at 22, St. Mary's Row in Birmingham. They were most noted for their wildfowling guns, big bores and punt guns but, like the rest of the Birmingham trade, would make any guns to order. There was also a Henry Tolley making guns around the same time in Birmingham who was probably related. They later sold out to Skimmin & Wood Gunmakers who specialised in making 2 inch chambered 12 bores for the trade in general. I own a J & W Tolley wildfowling gun made at their Pioneer Works in St. Mary's Row and also a later Skimmin & Wood 2 inch chambered 12 bearing the Tolley name, which they were entitled to do.
There is a lot of information available and I would be happy to try and answer any other questions. Lagopus.....
