Esteemed Members,
I think it is only fitting that we, as periodic users of a computer that enables us
to be in touch and interchange informations of all kinds, should pay a homage
to the man that made computers available to us all and also revolutionized
industries such as cinema, music and communications.

At my age it's all miracles to me. Mac from the beginning, now iPad and astonishing apps, particularly for flying, Jobs is the sparkler in the pantheon of the greats.
No need of your JMHO qualifier, Jaycee. He is all you say he is.
And if we don't recognize these things when we see it and talk about it, how are we to recognize and know good when we see it?

Replacement, yeah, DOS, we would still be typing in the first reply from years ago.
You can still use DOS when you start up your computer.

Thank you, Jaycee. It is to bad that many of the onboard flight computers have now become a hazard to the safety of flight. We have many examples of the loss of situational awareness inflight due to tunnel vision on a computer system. The crew interaction required with computer systems is leading to heads down eyes down flying when at least one pilot should be looking out the windshield but they are not, they are both watching the video game inside the cockpit. ATC adds to the problem by making changes to SIDS and STARS while we are zipping along at between 210 knots to 250 knots below 10,000 feet msl. Maintenance computers and onboard engine monitoring computers are getting better and better all the time and they require almost zero pilot input. TCAS computers and Windshear computers are great additions to our cockpits and require very little pilot programing or preflight testing, they just require prompt reaction by the pilot. No SA is HIA left seat and right seat, crew complacency .......all glass cockpits.........fly by wire, electronic interconnects..........TOO BORING.  .......noise abatement SIDS galore.......flying the line is not what it once was...........glad to be retired............  Cheers,

You can still use DOS when you start up your computer. Yeah, but it's not fun when you are the only one using it. No new software, anyway. Spreadsheets were a lot faster before they got all gooey.
