Who makes a good .22 Cal octagon barrel these days? I'm thinking of making up a low wall in Hornet. I've searched the web and not much comes up. I bought a green mountain, but my metal smith doesn't care for the dimensions. The barrel shank is round and will only give .020" or so engagement on the face of the action outboard of the threads. I fully agree that this doesn't sound like enough. I'm thinking of something like a #3 Win weight. It will be transitioned to round with a wedding band.

Hunt up an original barrel and then reline it. Several different approaches to how you might go about that, depending on intended use, shank size, and maybe rules.

Lilja will sell you an octagon barrel. HOWEVER, they outsource the profiling and that job is not always done adequately. We have one screwbean octagon barrel so made here in town.

I've used the GM light octagon barrels on a number of low walls with splendid success in 22LR, 22 Hornet and 25-20 WCF. No problems at all and a mighty fine custom appearance for the rifle when the round tulip is left at the breech.

I've got a blank, half octagon, half round, 28 inches long. has 1 1/4" long shank, 1" dia, then 1.065 octagon, 11 inches long. Round tapers from 1.040 to .990 at muzle.

Rifling is 9 twist, was a Montana Rifleman Blank, custom contoured. Twist is a bit fast for lighter bullets, but would work okay, and would allow shooting heavy bullets. Finish is excellent, polished and bead blasted lightly, very little work to rust blue these. $235 shipped for this barrel.

Also have a 16 twist centerfire, 3 groove Benchmark, 33 inches long, shank is 1.150" round, 3 1/2 inches long, transitions to octagon then tapers from 1.090 to .955. Octagon is 29 inches long, with 1" muzzle waste after that. Benchmark has been winning a fair amount of benchrest with their barrels. I'd like to get $300 shipped for this barrel. It would make a dandy .22 hornet for 40 and 45 gr bullets.
