Randall, thanks for providing the link. I am working on a page for the British proof marks, just need to finish it.

I am 90% sure of the dating of the proof marks on this gun. It is one of those strange Belgian guns done just before the occupation during WWII. Some have very bizarre proof marks. So either the gun was resubmitted in 1960 or they were so hectic in stamping in 1938....

Sometimes you look at the date code list and you look at the proofmark, and you find the one you think that's closest to it--but they're often not a perfect match in appearance. Some are really clear, and it's easy to say that's an a, for example. The underlining really helps to tell the 20's-40's guns from the 60's and later guns. But those strange Greek/Cyrillic letters they started using in the 50's can be really tricky.

Sorry the Miller information is confusing, but the Miller variation with the selector in front of the trigger blade is a scarce later variation. The normal Miller trigger in "selective" form has the selector in the safety and the markings are not done in an artistic fashion. Back in "the day", shooters were not particular about appearance, and I have never seen the L and the R impressed by an accomplished engraver.
