If I were going to shoot a gun with bbls having an .018" wall thickness 9" from the breech, I would want a light shot charge propelled to a very modest velocity by the quickest burning powder I could find, thus giving the highest chamber pressure for "That Load". I would want that pressure curve falling as rapidly as possible as it leaves the chamber not being in any way maintained further down the bbl.
Personally I have no desire to shoot one that thin, that close to the breech.

Actualy the cheapest way out is to go back to the guy who sold/ bored it out ,tell him he's scrapped the gun and get your money back .

Joey, not trying to be cute but the answer to that is one knats hair more than failure. So, there's really no answer to that without finding it yourself, which you don't want to do. I think most of us on the board would consider something like .030 at that particular point to be about it. On out towards the muzzle .018 is thin but generally not dangerous because pressures are so much less out there. What think the rest of you?

Yes, I would agree Mr. Wood.....030 near the breech to mid barrel minimum (.040/.045 is much better) and .025/.021 near the muzzle for minimums .......

I just sent a note to the gunsmith of the shop where I bought the gun last summer. I'm hoping they can do something to make it right. I'll let you know how that plays out.

PS - I called Briley about this last week. Gary said their tubes would make my sweet 16 into a 28 bore. Not the best gauge for grouse hunting IMHO. Looks like sleeving the barrel is my only choice there.
