I mentioned it a few years ago to a distinguished gunsmith with few peers. He advised against it because of risks. That was enough for me.

Please Im not asking for opinions on the matter, so lets not confuse the issue as to what each one of you believe, there are many different takes on the subjectwhich has more to do with proper practice and common sense

Im only asking about a rule and the enforcing of that rule.does it exist or was it just personal opinion presented as fact??

I was answering the original poster...my opinion. I don't know anything about the enforcement of such things in the USA.

I've not heard of any legal structure to have to do anything if something is re-colour hardened. If the action is loose other otherwise after the process it'll need fixing. Now I might be totally wrong here! smile

My statement is a direct quote from DT/Crossed-chisels. DR's not guns are out of proof after the actions are recase hardened. Proof houses do the policing I assume. Over treating certainly would make these actions very brittle.
