Larry there is no conversion factor or formula for converting lead crusher (LUP) to transducer pressures (PSI). For aparticular load 8,000 LUP may infact be equal to 10,000 PSI. You have to test the same load using the lead crusher method and then test it with a transducer to know for sure and then it is only valid for that particular load,if it were ole Rocketman could have whipped out a conversion formula in about 30 seconds with his pocket size Post bamboo slide rule.

Larry, Birmingham may be on crushers but that is not the only signatory to the CIP and the CIP does provide data for transducer method. Took me awhile to find the data, but I have a copy of the transducer standards. Your French buddies run the thing and they seem to only want the tables provided to the manufacturers, not the users. Or so it seemed when I was trying to gain access.

Jerry, I realize England is not the only signatory to CIP--but you referred specifically to British reproof.
The email from the Birmingham Proof House resulted from an article I wrote for Shooting Sportsman about 10 years ago. They sent it to the Proof House for comments. Here is the response:
"The reference in the article to the CIP service pressure of 650 bar and proof pressure of 850 bar is a reference to crushers values; the equivalent transducer values that should be used for comparison with SAAMI transducer values are 740 bar service and 960 bar proof, i.e. 10,730 psi and 13,920 psi. CIP crusher service pressure for high performance (magnum) is 900 bar and proof 1200 bar. The transducer values are 1050 bar service, 1370 bar proof."
So . . . we (and the British) are still two peoples divided by a common language.

Side question, can a gun not be considered best quality if an under lug protrudes through the bottom of the frame? Holland and Holland wouldn't take that position. Curl

thanks for the response on the "best" guns... the gun in question was actually an Alexander Henry 12 gauge. I'll create another post with some pictures when I get time.
Thanks again.
