It's already right on the edge of what many consider to be minimum. Honing is going to leave it thinner by quite a bit. My guess is it has passed its useful life. Would it be possible to give us wall thickness measurements every six inches, beginning at the front of the forcing cones?

What is the bore diameter? It sounds like it has already been honed.

well guys i got the barrel gauge out today and took measurements every six inches.Goes like this from the breach. 50 thousandths,35 thousandths,25 thousandths, 25 thousandths, and then 30 at the bore. The pits come in at 22 thousandths,Its 10" away from the muzzle.Barrels are vulcan steel. Is this set still safe to shoot, if i only run light dove loads through it.

Best,

Just a suggestion.

Call a competent barrel man such as Brad Bachelder, Mike Orlen or Briley & discuss your barrels with them. I imagine they will want you to send the barrels to them so they can evaluate them in hand. Then go with their recommendations.

I don't think many here will be willing to say that a pitted set of barrels which may be borderline for wall thickness are safe to shoot.

dogon gives you good advice. Parker Vulcan steel is pretty tough stuff. If you have the bores honed and can stay above 20 thousandths 10 inches from the muzzle you should be O.K. with RST light loads but it would be best to have a good barrel man like Brad to check your gun first. JNHO

Where was the .050" measurement taken. "IF" that was At the Breech it would be the one that scares me the most. There should certainly be well over .050" anywhere in the chamber area.

The 50 Thousands was taken six inches from the breech.
