I bought some stuff from CSMC over the holidays; two days later an unauthorized charge from Quatar for $3200 on my CC; then a pfishing letter from CSMC asking for updated bank info; then finally an admission from Galazan that their files have been hacked. So I am thinking it's highly likely that's how my CC details ended up in Quatar.
Still haven't received my stuff, ordered on 12/28.
So a warning, if you need to buy something from them call them on the phone, don't go through their website.

Oh geez. Maybe this is why my Winchester pad hasn't gotten here yet. It has been over a month since I ordered it.

As you tell the salesperson your credit card number you can be sure it is being keyed into their computer system. Sorry to burst your false security bubble! Curl

Capt, It's quite possible to hack the internet-facing web server and monitor the transactions that take place there, without ever getting inside their corp network to the central ledger/accounting system. The web server is outside a firewall, the corp network is inside.
For you folks with a cable modem or DSL connection, a $60 Linksys router will act a as simple firewall. It's plug and play with pre-configured basic protection. Without a router, your PC is facing the internet with a public (touchable-seeable-hackable) address. With a router, your PC's address is private, and the router has the public address.

Yeti: I tried to do this by PM but it just won't work so here goes. I know just enough about wireless to be dangerous. I just installed a linksys router on the main computer downstairs and a linksys card on my daughters computer upstairs and pushed the yellow cisco symbol button which turned white which I guess means all is secure. Problem is my other daughter came home from college with her laptop which has, I presume a non linksys wireless card, and therefore couldn't access our network. So I redid the whole thing again but this time didn't push the cisco symbol. My other daughter can now access the network with her laptop but are we in danger of being hacked? I don't really care if someone outside the house can pickup and use our network for free to access the internet but I do care if they can access my computer. I have a firewall running on the main computer downstairs i.e. the one plugged into the router. Sorry about the long OT question but I see you have the expertise. Any advice? Thanks, John C. PS my email address is jclark03@twcny.rr.com which I'm giving you since the whole PM thing seems screwed up since the board was switched over.
