I'm having trouble finding the mfg. date for a 20 ga. Miroku SxS, Model 351A, S/N 191983, apparently made for Montgomery Ward and lightly stamped "Western Field" on the top of the left barrel. I'd appreciate some advice or information.

It's a nice gun, seems to fit me well, and I enjoy using it. I'm just curious about it's history. I've been told it is very similar to the SxS's they made for Charles Daly. It is NOT a CD! It has BC Miroku engraved all over it, including the butt plate.

I'll tell you what fella, if you find any information about it, I'll pay you to share the information so that I can date mine!!!

I've got a similar gun, model 326 EMJ. I can't find anything on a DOM for it.

It's a great gun. Enjoy it!

Good luck!

Nick

Ditto on the lack of information for WesternField Miroko sxs.
I have a 326 emj in 20-ga.
Great gun, can find virtually nothing on manufacture.
I have assumed seventies vintage along with Daly model 500's?

That's not exactly the information I was hoping for!

Mine has the EMJ on it as well, but I didn't think it had anything to do with the model.

Someplace I read that MW sold these guns for a brief period of time, maybe three years, in the '60's. If that is true, you would think that someone out there knows when this happened. It looks as though the "Western Field" stamp is on the barrel as an afterthought. I'm wondering if these were stock weapons intended for the European market and MW just bought a truckload or something shortly before they went out of business.

The Miroku website is a waste of time.

Unless you can get your hands on the old Wards records, doubt you'll find much. And even then, I doubt you'd find anything specific enough to give you much more than a range of dates during which Wards marketed those Miroku doubles. I'd be really surprised if you could find anything tied to SN's. And since Wards was the dealer and not the maker, SN information wouldn't be of much use anyway. The store brand crossover list in the Blue Book is of no help. Doesn't even list any Miroku-made guns under either Wards or Western Field.

My dad bought a Monkey Wards Mirouku 20 gauge 3" mag with vent rib, beaver tail FE and double triggers about 1962. I doubt he would remember what he paid for it, but as I remember, it was something like $158. I'll try to get over there this weekend after my weekend hunt and have a look at it and see what it has for model number, serial number and stamps. I doubt its been out of the case for 10 years.

Jaghund: Thanks for your offer. As you can see, there are others besides me who would welcome the info about Montgomery Wards. The early '60's makes sense with the little I have learned, and the model and serial numbers would (hopefully) give us a clue to the approximate date of manufacture.

The gun you describe that your Dad bought sounds like a dead ringer for mine.
