I have a Grulla 209-H . . . will this gun be okay for 1 1/4 oz loads for waterfowl and turkey? I don't hunt duck much anymore.

Thanks

From its condition and history, you've a better idea than anyone here if it's safe to use. More information, please. I've been shooting ducks and geese by choice with less than 1 1/4-ounce loads with satisfactory results for decades.

On a related subject(not trying to hijack this thread), I just acquired a Grulla two barrel / two gauge set in a leather trunk case with a Ducks Unlimited label. The barrels are both 26 inches, one 20 gauge & the other 28 gauge. The action is sidelock and the SN is DURXXX. The case is complete with three turnscrews, nickle snap caps in both gauges and two nickle plated oil bottles. Has anyone seen a set like this and what is it's approximate value? The gun looks very much a Purdey.

Best Regards, George

Interesting gun . . . does the gun have a DU emblem or just the case?

King Brown . . Gun is like new . . just don't want to shake things loose so to speak. I've been blasting at ducks for 40 yrs with everything from 1 1/8 oz to really heavy (and effective) super X - double x loads from "the day." Usually use a big heavy Browning citori or a Beretta 686 but I've grown kind of bored shooting those so . . here I am. I will definitely shoot some ducks, or at some ducks, in a few weeks with the Grulla. I thought about finding a heavier one but I think I will be fine.

Wiredducker: The DU label is just on the inside of the case lid. The gun itself has rose & scroll engraving just like the Royal in the company's catalogue.

The DU Grulla has English/Purdey style rose & scroll but it is not up the quality of the rose & scroll found on the Royal. Your DU gun is pretty much a Model 216 with a different name on it.

There is a set on Gunsamerica that is listed for $9K. Its been on there for a very long time and hasn't sold.

Nice gun though.

Check the proof, and get shells that conform, probably CIP rated shells. If it cannot take steel or other hard shot, then non-toxic shot like Kent TM, Nice Shot, or bismuth would work. If newer non-toxic loads, that are good in barrels not rated for steel, are on the market, I would like to know about them.
