I never owned a LC untill today and kinda liked the wood on this one .I think I did ok although I really have no clue with these as I am a "bit out of my lane" Its says Specialty Grade and has a decent amount of case color which looks orignal to me (I may be wrong) and not to shabby lumber Have no clue about the build date ,serial number is S251XX. Are there any LC guys in the house?Happy to share the all the dirty details both good and bad to see if I am under water or not . Thanks, Dave

Dave, think you have too many X's in the serial. S prefix is an L C Smith Gun Co (Marlin) made 47-48. Nice configuration, double triggers, splinter f/e, HRBP. Most of the Specialtys I see are target guns. Nice looking gun.
I learn something every day, and a lot of times it's that what I learned the day before was wrong

Dave, if you did add one to many x's, your gun was made in 1946, if not it was made in 1948. Like James said, beautiful wood and still has some case. Does yours have the precious metal (gold) bar inlaid at the junction of the rib and the rib extension? Also the wood is to good to be true. Good luck with it and you should go to http://www.lcsmith.org. and find out more.

FWIW, I was told by one of the gentlemen in the LC Collector's group that the correct bar for a Speciality Grade is of silver. Mine's missing too. Lee
