Hi,
I have plenty of data for 12 gauge Federal paper hulls, does anyone know if this is safe with the RST (Cheddite made) paper hulls?
If not can anyone point me to some low pressure data for 12 gauge RST/Cheddite paper hulls

Thanks
Lawrence

If your reloading data for the Federal paper hulls is safe for your gun it will be safe using the Cheddite/RST paper hulls.

Federal hulls tend to be somewhat thicker and thus have less available volume than the Cheddite/RST paper hulls. Therefore, the chamber pressure will be slightly less with the Cheddite/RST hulls than the Federal hulls.

I have loaded a few and find recoil a bit higher than Federal. The paper is thinner and the base wad is plastic, not paper. My 17.5 grain red dot with 1 oz of shot is very mild in any hull but I can not give you percise data.

Word on the street is that Cheddites pinhole on the first firing and way limp crimps when reloaded.

Aside from the smell, there ain't nothing paper does that plastic don't do better. So why bother? Or do you like gas blowing back in the action?

Being honest, I do like the smell.
The lower recoil on the Federal paper hulls is nice too.
I dont need to reload these, I just want to. I have plenty of old style AA's and STS/Nitro 27 hulls so I can keep making noise for the foreseeable future either way.
I just like paper hulls, I'm not weird about it I usually use plastic wads. I am not however above an occasional roll crimp now and then.
Thanks for the replys, the hulls are 2 1/2" which also throws another variable into the mix using Federal 2 3/4 data, I can probably just roll crimp them and have the same interior space and stick to a really low pressure recipe to be safe.

Lawrence if you run out of space in your hull for a good roll crimp just go to a wad (made by the same manufacturer) that has a shorter crush section. Example, if you are using a wad designed for 1 ounce loads use a wad made for 1 1/8th ounce loads. This should accommodate any decrease in hull capacity.

Our shotguns are quite capable of enduring minor errors in reloading without damage. They will probably endure major errors also.

And what pray tell does that mean?
