Hi all, I'm wondering if you can be my second set of eyes here.

This gun looks like a Model 06 to me. The pics are not the best, but as I said she sure looks like a 06 not a 800 series gun.

What say you?

Thanks as always!!

Greg

I would say that it is an 871 engraved in the 06 style. The 871 model is a 5-pin sidelock sans the self-opening system, the 06 model is a 7-pin sidelock and is a self-opener. Your linked gun is a 5-pin and the seller makes no mention of it being a self-opener. As you know, any model of Arrieta can be ordered with any style of engraving.

Is the 871 made both with and without the hand detachable feature? I owned one several years back, and as I recall it was not hand detachable. Seems the 2" 12ga Wingshooters guns, which were built on the 871 action, were also without the hand detach feature.

I believe the hand detachable feature is a no cost option available on any Arrieta model.

871 was definitely available with hand detacable locks. Old copy of catalog I had showed it with Boss type engraving like mine (below).

Here is a pic of mine. Only pic I have left and not quite up to my current size/quality standards of photo work.

There does appear to be one difference between the two that struck me. Mine had a noticably slimmer rounded sculpting of the action forward of the locks as it transitioned to the hinge-pin area fore-end. That is in addition to the rounded stock & action lock area. It is visible in my picture if you enlarge it, but the one on GI looks to be a straight/flat follow-thru of the lines of the rounded locks. That would seem to be more of the effect they used when rounding the 5xx series guns for G&H/etc.

Here is a Link that you can open aand enlarge to 150-200% to see the rebated frame forward and surrounding the locks.

She's a beautiful gun!

Initially, I thought she was an 871, but she could just as well be a rounded action 557, 570 or 578 that has been engraved in the Model 06 style.

Some uninformed or dare I say--less than honest sellers have in the past tried to pass off guns such guns as this one as the real deal--an Arrieta Boss Model 06 self-opener that could bring in the neighborhood of $10,000 more for than a 500 series or an 871 gun would. Now having said that, I believe that this gun that you've bought was priced reasonably for what it is.

I'd recommend you go to go to the Arrieta website www.arrietashotguns.com and decide for yourself what model she is by looking past the engraving and comparing the number and location of the pins.

Thanks for the kind words words Bam. Much appreciated!! The seller to his credit has even said he does not know much about these guns and was honest to say that he didn't know what model it was.

I did e-mail Arrieta with the SN. The seller was kind enough to provide it is the the 554th gun made in 1999. That IMO tells me that it's not a 06. I believe they came out with the 06 in just the past couple years. I guess I'll have to wait on Arriet to confirm the model.

BTW, I paid much less that what the seller asked. I think for what I got it for was a fair deal. The seller BTW was very helpful and responsive, all questions answered and great attitude.

Thanks again!!!!

Greg
