Was mine for very little..and maybe that is a very good thing:(

Gun is exceptionally sound, not cosmetically correct (wood poly'd but not sanded, no case colors on frame, blue on bits mostly gone) and lever is over center but everything still feels and works in a top notch manner.

Gun feels, looks and measures up to the point where I would have no confidence issues with shooting light, over the counter loads in it for an occaisional round of skeet.

My main concern is the barrels, first but least...they were cut to 28" so no choke...no worries by me on that as the ends were resoldered and dressed well...without a bead though?

Major concern is that they were reblued at some point, twist pattern shows through in some areas with good contrast and is completely obscured in others.

How do I determine if it is a hot or salt blue...and if it is as I suspect...how do I neutralize it?

If it is a bad blue, it would be nice to be able to neutralize it without messing up the current state of finish. Inside and out they are pit and ripple free, bores are mirror and still measure about .718" (kinda tight? ) and wall thickness where I can measure it is very good...just worried about between the ribs wher I cannot measure it.

If it is a hot blue it will weaken the solder to the point there may be rib seperation. if you are really cocerned you can put a hole in the bottom rib(two if you don't already have one)under the forearm and flush with soda water using a large vet syringe and needle. when done warm with heat gun etc. to dry. You could also introduce some water displacing oil the same way as the soda. Hope this helps, Mark

Putting a base solution(Soda) in the rib to try to dissolve the remains of a base solution(NaOH)doesn't make any sense. A quick white vinegar flush would be a better bet, then flush with water followed with WD-40.

If it's been hot blued the ribs are most likely going to be loose.
