Hi all, just was wondering what cup of tea you like when it comes to doubles?

I like the following: DT, English grip, Splinter Forend, 27 or 28" bbls, Coin finished action with scroll engraving and light in weight.

I've also evolved from quantity to quality. At one time I had 22 SxS's and now I've cut that back to an even dozen, all IMO, quality guns. Sold a lot of lower grade guns and bought higher grade guns.

So how about you?

Thanks and all the best!!

Greg

Good question Greg! I prefer Purdey style Rose and Scroll, color case finishes, double triggers, splinter forends, straight stocks (though a Prince-of-Wales with grip cap take a very close second), 28-30" barrels, raised file-cut ribs, and ejectors.

My everyday SxS is a 20 gauge Launch Edition RBL. I prefer the straight grip, double triggers, and 28" barrels. The receiver has the optional case coloring, which I prefer for its aesthetic appeal. I did not desire the assisted opener, but it was 'thrown in' at no extra cost. After consideration, I removed it. My other shotgun, for 'nostalgia hunting', is a 12 gauge "G" Grade Lefever. It is of 1896 vintage with 30" Damascus barrels and a half pistol gripped stock. The case colors have faded and the gun is turning brown, but it is in great mechanical condition. I have a line on another 12 gauge "G" Grade of 1900 vintage that I can pick up next week (hopefully!) Cheers!

My preference is double triggers, splinter forend, rounded pistol grip, manual safety, ejectors, straight grained wood with thick lines.

I've been through every iteration of a sxs known, and for my wingshooting, which is almost exclusively for Sporting Clays and dove, I want a single trigger, pistol grip, semi-beavertail gun very similar to a Win. 21's classic configuration. Works fine for my turkey hunting also. But I would want that style regardless of gauge; my 20 ga. Launch Edition RBL is just right.

I just received a new RBL 12 ga. with 32" bbls. in this configuration and it is absolutely stunning in how well it handles and shoots. Best handling "big gun" I've ever shot.

I can appreciate the classic English game gun with straight grips, double triggers, and splinter forends, but I've long since moved on from that style for the volume shooting I do.

I love Damascus, burly walnut, DT, splinter forend, 28"-30" barrels. Chokes depend on the purpose the gun is used for. As far as ignition, I love percussion and flint as well. After all, who needs only one gun. grin

Straight stock with interesting wood
Splinter forend
Prefer 28-30" barrels (even on a .410)
Double trigger
Nice case colors, tasteful engraving (subjective, I know)
16 gauge, I also have a weakness for .410's
Back-action lock hammer guns
Super lightweight SXS's (like my 5# 16 gauge French SXS with 27" barrels)
I also have a weakness for unique guns (pinfire for instance) and muzzle loaders, etc.

I too once had a bunch of SxS's.....just 2 remain, both dt, splinter, straight stock one with ejectors and one extractor gun, both British sidelocks, though the extractor gun is a baker lock(coil spring). I mostly shoot the Holland now days.

I like most of the features others have listed above. 28-30" barrel, two triggers, extractors, straight grip or POW equally well, pretty wood, two ivory beads, recoil pad, fixed chokes, fairly heavy(7-1/2 to 7-3/4 lbs in 12 gauge,6-1/2 to 7 in 28) as I probably shoot 1000 or more clay targets to every shot in the field and I don't walk very far, even then. Love the look of sidelocks, nice Damascus, and most important, how it fits me and feels in action. I love 28 gauges! Also love Lefevers (Syracuse model)
