Ran across a Consort model that a gun shop is trying get rid of, actually all the Grulla's they have in stock for that matter, not happy with distribution rights going to GSI. Anyway they have it ticketed @ $5950, good price ?? Better quality Spanish maker?? Merry, Merry !!

That's $1k less than what Lion Country sells theirs for, so yes, that seems like a good price. All I want for Christmas is a Grulla? Niiice.

The gunshop I mentioned is LCS, and the model I asked about is a 16. My main concern is quality, there was a thread going recently about Spanish quality and some ranked Grulla 3rd. Dollar for dollar how do they match up with Merkel?

My guess is you could probably order one to your specs for less than that. The only downside is the wait. Better yet, go to Spain, enjoy the Basque countryside and the 5-6 gunshops in the area of Eibar for a few days and then order it. I think you would find it an unusual experience and well worth the time and effort, not to mention the savings--and you can pick out your own piece of lumber, usually from a huge pile.

Gil's right. My wife and I visited there in the early '80s and thoroughly enjoyed it. The Grulla I ordered was (is) exactly what I ordered and I chose from any of his wood (for gun comparable to a Consort).
As for quality, the discussion focused on ranking literally the best of the Spanish best makers. Wieland's book "Spanish Best" makes pretty clear what many have learned: The best Spanish guns are excellent choices and bargains today. Grulla has made guns for royalty more than once.
