I saw somewhere, maybe on here, a mention of a running deer range setup using an electric garage door opener. I have a range and berm on my farm and would like to set up a running deer range with small targets for 22 rifles. Does anyone please have a diagram? I plan on using a portable generator, the garage door thing and pulleys and plastic covered washing line cable.
Thanks,
Mike

The best practice I've ever seen for 'running deer' targets was a tire with a cardboard target inside (no wheel) rolled down a hill allowing it to jump and bounce at the will of the terrain.

Mike,
I'm not exactly sure what you're describing, but here's a motorized 22 target for $200.

Mike;
Tom Cacek a member of our "California SxS Society" constructed such a device (using a garage door opener) for the sxs rifle match at our State meet last year,
at the Sun Mountain Gun Club, about 30 miles NE of Fresno, Ca.

Tom's email is hytec45@aol.com, it is a neat set up!

This years State Meet is again at Sun Mountain, May 28,29 and 30
2010. Contact Larry Shelton lsheltonsxs@sbcglobal.net for general information. Or visit the California SXS web site. Any and all SXS enthuisiasts welcomed!

Thanks for the tips. We have a hill but we are somewhat disinclined to reset the target! I'll e-mail Tom right away.

The Caldwell target device is good for indoors, but is not quite what we had in mind, Check, but thanks anyway. We want to set up something outside so we can use centrefire as well as rimfire.

Tire sounds good to me. Just as long as you have an ATV to haul it to the top for the other guys.

The tire is a fun way to go! A buddy and I used to take our mini 14's out and burn a bunch of ammo on our "running deer" tire target.

Our course wasn't too long, so we'd just take turns carrying the tire up and hill.
