Hi,
I have been offered a JP Sauer in 16ga with extractors, make date 12/57, 2 3/4 (70mm)chambers. I have been unable to determine the model in order to make an offer on it. On another board, it was suggested that it is a model 60. However it lacks the Kersten crossbolt that I have seen on model 60's. I am in the hope that someone can shed some light as to the model and perhaps a value?

I think all Model 60's were marked on the barrels as West German guns. However, although I'd like a little closer look at your barrel flats, the proofmark farthest left--looks like a leaf--certainly appears to me to be the Eckernforde proofmark, which would make it West German for sure, and the gun a Model 60. Quite a few of those did not have a Greener. For example, my Stoeger catalog (1961) shows the Model 60 without a Greener.

Thanks,
It does have Eckernford on the barrels and "Special Steel" (in German) followed by "Rochumer Verein"

I think Geno is right. It looks just like the Stoeger catalog page for the Kim which goes to great length to explain how the elimiation of the crossbolt and barrel extension into which it locks is an improvement with all the strength of the better english doubles. (Nothing like the sales department for B.S.) It sold for $158 in 1959.

Looks exactly like the standard Sauer 60 (which also has no crossbolt) in my 1961 Shooter's Bible. Engraving matches perfectly, from what I see in the photo.

Nope, it is marked JP Sauer & Sonn made in Eckernforde W Germany.
Anyway thanks for the input -- I made an offer and it was accepted.
Cheers, John

Yes. I checked W.Germany Sauer catalog, its mod.Kim and gun bears Sig Sauer trade mark - 3 letter S, not crossed SuS. But they marked these guns as JP Sauer und Sohn, thou Kim was the cheapest Sauer gun at that time, early mod.Habicht modification.

Most likely the same gun with different model designations for export to the States and in Europe. Same was true of Beretta at that time. In the States, their OU's were called BL-something. In Europe, the same gun was S-something.

Sauer-60 is American dealer trade name and has nothing in common with W.German Sauer.
