Hello All,
Was shooting my Pre-1913 L.C.Smith Grade 3, 12 gauge Damascus gun, with 20 gauge Briley tubes installed this afternoon. On the second round of skeet, the top rib sprung.
Who can re-solder sxs ribs?
Every thing is still tight except the top rib. Thanks Mike

Del Whitman can do it, it will be around $800 for the ribs (he'll want to do both top and bottom) to be relayed and for the barrels to be rebrowned afterwards, I was quoted about a 3 to 4 month turnaround on that job. In Texas, I believe Merrington will relay your ribs too, I've never seen his work, so I'd still send them to Del.

Dan Lokker at Giacomo Sporting has relaid ribs on a Fox and an L.C. Smith for me. He's rust blued several sets of barrels for me. His shop price for a complete rib strip, relay and rust blue was $385 in 2006. http://www.giacomosportingusa.com/perazzi-gunsmithing.htmlThis is how I ship barrels...

Years ago I had Art of http://artsgunshop.com/ near St. Louis relay the top rib on a german double rifle and left it up to him if the barrels needed to be re-blacked. When he was done he did not re-blacken the barrels. I was driving past and stopped to pick them up and could not tell he had re-soldered the rib. After aver 25 years they still are fine. The rifle shoots very well I had been a little worried about the regulation but he said it would not be a problem and it was not. He is a Browning specialist but does top quality work. Cheers, laurie

skeettx: All the craftsmen mentioned are undoubtedly fine. However, I consider Kirk Merrington to be the best barrel and rib man in America. He ought to be. He's a former Churchill barrelmaker from the UK. But his skills go far beyond barrels.
Best, Kensal

Betram & Company can do it. They did my 2E bottom rib last year. Only about $300.00. bertramandco.com

Bonehill, I really enjoyed the phone chat, Thanks Barrels on the way to you. Insured, receipt requested, etc. Letter inside the package to you, with all the particulars. I am excited, that gun is a real shooter and the Briley tubes make it easy to shoot. Thanks Mike
