I'm surprised that tea didn't do it; I used a new bag on some ivory beads, left them in overnight (I think) and they were too "aged"; I had to work them down a bit and start over. Left them in a few hours and they were just right.

Way back when I was a smoker the tobacco would stain my teeth a really nice yellowish umber hue and I think soaking it in tobacco juice might do the same for your grip cap.

Elephant ivory yellows with age, walrus ivory does not. Wonder if walrus ivory will stain with tea bags? Do you know the source of your ivory?

I've got a large coffin handled damascus bowie I had built many years ago and slabbed with elephant ivory. It has really dried out and aged beautifully over the years, hairline cracks and all, but I never tried to dye it.
