Are the American Arms guns built by Grulla up to the standards of the rest of the Grullas? Terry Wieland's "Spanish Best" suggests that several of the big names in Basque gunmaking have been known to turn out lower quality guns on contract. I don't remeber Grulla being one of those makers, but I figure it's easy enough to ask. Here's an example; it's looks good, but is it? http://www.gunsinternational.com/Grulla-No-2-sidelock-12-gauge.cfm?gun_id=100113309

I have no experience with this import Tom. But the inside of that lock looks pretty darn good for a $3500 gun.

Back in the day, when American Arms started to import those guns (Grulla) I snapped one up at about 900.00 as I remember. It was a 28 bore and a very fine gun. I sold it, in a moment of foolishness, for about twice what I paid for it.....Been sorry ever since...

I nearly bought a couple of them in houston in 1993; they were about $800-$900, as I recall. the store went under before I could get back to it ( Buck and Duck outdoors on Westheimer). The chokes all mod-full on the 28 ga guns; he was supposed to get me a more open choked gun, which is why i waited. thanks for the advice.

Hi, the AA Imported Grulla's are just as good as the ones they made under their own banner. Grulla did not really make price point guns as other Spanish firms do/did.
The AA #2 were also semi-custom guns. You had to order them to the best of my knowledge.
The gun your looking at is a very nice example in excellent condition. Grulla BTW is a very well respected Spanish maker both over here and in Spain.
The price is on the high end, but in the ballpark.
Good luck!!!

I still have one in 20ga, sold its big brother on GB this summer. 12 ga was a little heavy and I didn't like the short bbls. I love the 20!! Great guns that are IMO extremely underrated. I am usually a US double guy only. This is the only "continental" gun I own, and I love it!

I remember those American Arms Grullas too, but for some reason I thought they were 209's. Am I misremembering?

Larry, they are engraved with "No. 2" on the sideplates. Does anyone know if there is an equivalent model currently made?

Hi the Col is right, the gun is really a 209. This model is on the bottom of the pecking order, but the quality is still top notch.
If one wants to get a Grulla at a good price, check out Union Armera. This was the name used prior to Grulla being adopted in 1983. Same gun, same makers same everything, only cheaper in price. Just a name change and better marketing.
All the best!

Greg, I'm aware of the Union Armera connection. the UA guns I've seen advertised had very unattractive case colors and seemed pretty "used". I always keep my eyes open, though. I need a time machine so I can go back and buy a few $2k Arrietas. Also, could maybe buddy up with Al gore and get in on the ground floor of the internet. Nah...it wouldn't be worth the pain.
