Aside from Turnbull, any suggestions as to whom to use for true color hardening anymore?? Who have you all used lately? Also I picked up a very late NID 12 ga field with beautiful wood and great bbls however some "gunsmith" polished the receiver to nickle bright and lost all the border engraving. Anybody know of someone who could bring it back?? This a great gun and I would like to bring the receiver back...

Don't skimp on the reengraving. Either pick someone who can do both jobs or pick an engraver who can fully prepare the receiver, not just pick up the engraving. If you have it reengraved and leave the polishing to the case color guy, he will ruin it or have to reengrave it again.

Eightbore is right on, suggest you contact Ken Hurst, he can handle both for you.

Walter I am going to attempt to post some pictures of this gun, the wood is original and incredible for a field grade I think you'll probably appreciate it, I paid a little too much I believe but it had 30 in tubes and 4/4 chokes, late season roosters and turkeys this spring beware...

I have had frame filers say they won't let an engraver touch a receiver until they, the filer, prepares the surface. I have had engravers say they want to prepare everything themselves. Some case color guys want to prepare the surface. Your job is to pick an engraver who thinks he is the greatest polisher in the world or find that greatest polisher before you send it to the engraver. Waiting until it gets to the case color guy is too late if your gun is freshly engraved.

Ken Hurst uses Classic Guns. If you want to get your hands dirty have Classic Guns anneal the metal and ship it back to you so you can do the metal prep, send it to Ken for engraving and either he or you can send it back to Classic Guns for case hardening.
