My wife and I have planned the whole month of March on South Island--possibly a little time in the north too. No agenda or plans, just drifting around. Would enjoy meeting some of y'all. Five years ago we spent quite a bit of time around Wanaka and wouldn't be surprised to end up there again.

Joe
I know this has nothing to do with your post. Just wanted to let you know I really appreciate the tag line at the end of your posts. I wish more hunters and trout fishers here in PA had that attitude.
Cheers Marcus

King, my wife Sandy and I spent about three weeks in NZ five years ago and never had a better trip in our lives. Great people and incredibly beautiful country. I never fished (though I'm a fanatical fly fisherman) but we just explored. Have no plans on the coming trip--we'll just follow our noses and see what happens. I will be poking said nose into the few gun shops they have. Maybe I'll borrow a fly rod and give those South Island browns a run for their money.
Marcus, I can't tell you how much I appreciate your comment about my tag line. It took half a lifetime to discover such a simple truth. But the last 30 plus years have been so much more enjoyable than the first. Life is so fleeting that all of it should be respected.
P.S. Ever notice that it's the one that gets away that is remembered best? Heh, heh.....

Hi Joe, Pity its not in rugby season- its a great game to see live and the Kiwis aren't half bad at it (almost as good as the Saffas!) Regards, Charls

If you're interested in fishing, I highly recommend Simon Robertson at Rotorua Trout Safaris (http://wildtrout.co.nz) husband and wife operation, good food, great accomodations overlooking a beautiful lake. His wife was most accomodating, taking my wife around to see the local sights while I fished.
