I've got half a box of Alcan 1/2in fibre 12 ga shot shell wads in front of me. You pay for cost to mail them, and they are yours. I'll even top the box off with paper hulls for ya so you don't have to shoot plastic ones. Email me at brdslayr@clearwire.net

About 100 years ago there was a wad called a "LAG Unwad" It was simply a cup with an insert in the cup that crushed to compensate for volume. Ideal for black and 2 inch shells but I have not seen any for years.

Bill, I THINK I have some of the LAGE Uniwads. I moved a year ago and haven't unpacked most of my reloading stuff(gunroom under construction) but I believe I have a couple of boxes of them. They were in a large box full of felt and paper wads that I bought at an estates sale. I didn't have any use for them but haven't thrown them away (yet).

To other questions.

I load all of my blackpowder loads in the green Remington Gun Club hulls. That is my way of identifying them. If they are in my gunroom and loaded, they are BP.

I use only felt and fiber wads. I have never weighed the BP for a BP shotshell. Volume for volume with whatever wad column gives me a proper crimp. Generally I load 1 oz of shot.

My original questions was on the speed of the shot. 82 grains - 3 drams and one oz. of shot. verses 72 grains - 2 1/2 drams of Both loaded with F-2 Using 1 oz. of shot What will be the difference in speed?

Go to circlefly.com for a good primer on loading black powder shells. Also, he has all of the loading components to load both muzzleloaders and cartridges.

Do you all roll crimp or star crip with a reloader? I prefer rolling it myself.

Can't really help you on speed; that amount of powder should be lethal on clays and small game though, provided your wadding seals properly. The old rule of thumb was that if it punctured a tin can at normal game range it should lethally puncture a small animal. I use card and greased felt, then roll crimp. Anything with a roll crimp in my magazine is BP. It also just looks cool...

I'm interested in how people go modifying cases for pinfire - smaller rims, pins, priming etc. Is there anyone who makes swaging dies for the rims? Jigs etc for drilling pin holes? How do people manage priming?

I shot quite a few crows with BP loads; I used the old rule of thumb - the volume of BP load equals the volume of shot load - and the crows were falling down very dead.
