W.W. Greener SN 46060 was manufactured during th period 1896-97 according to Nigel Brown's book "BRITISH GUNMAKERS". The elephant was Greener's Trademark. Legend has it that William Greener was once called upon to dispatch a circus elephant that had escaped captivity and was terrorizing London.
Some of the Greener records are currently held by David Dryhurst of W.W. Greener, Ltd. Tel/Fax 011 44 0121 445 3449. Webley took over the company at 53400 on 12th., November 1965.
Best Regards, George

Part 3 of The Greener Story by Graham Greener contains information as to dates of production, specifications and other information by serial number.

You can get a factory letter on your Greener. I got a recent one and it gave a nice history and told the workers for each part of the gun as well as the price each was paid. Two different engravers worked on the gun in my letter. I think the cost of the letter was around 40bps.

I'm not sure of the grade, the wood is a very definate upgrade with a darker diamond inlay at the wrist just in front of the checkering,it has full scroll type engraving on the rec and trigger guard and a very nice pigeon engraved on the rib.At this point the most I really know about greeners is that I like them.I have another 16ga made in 1890 that is in beautiful condition,a hammer trap gun converted to a 45-90 double rifle,a minature club gun in 22 cal that is just about mint and a martini greener conversion to 22 cal.

I just became custodian of Greener serial number 19840. It's a 16-bore with rather nice damascus barrels. Any idea of the manufacturing date? I would also like information on ordering the book mentioned and how to get a letter on this beautiful gun.

if that's a hammerless boxlock like mine it's a very early gun my serial # is 38000 and was made early 1890's.I've seen the greener story book on gunbroker for about $80.plus shipping.
