I just ordered a RBL slug gun. I did not order swivels installed. I may reconsider though. Any opinions welcome

I assume this is the RBL double barreled gun?? Since you have ordered it in a slug configuration, shall I also assume that your intended use is on pig or deer or larger, even potentially dangerous game? Given that, I would guess that you will carry this gun for relatively lengthy periods NOT in the "ready" mode, such as hiking in to a deer stand, etc. Personally, I would order it with the swivels. Besides, I just think it would look really cooooool!!!!

Can't speak to slug guns in specific. However, my first "classic" double was a Sauer 16 with swivels. I found a European sling to fit. (Expect that would not be an issue with an RBL; European shotgun swivels are typically narrower than American slings, which are almost exclusively made for rifles. In Europe, it's pretty common to have a swivel-mounted sling on a double.) Found it quite useful--for taking pictures without putting the gun on the ground, trudging back to the truck with a limit of birds, etc.

Ken at Kebco has the narrow Euro-sling in a nice hunter-green tint for a reasonable outlay.

I have had Ken's slings on three of my guns for a couple of years and have been real happy with them.

I have a SXS with sling swivels and I use the gun for spring gobbler and winter fox shooting. The sling is great! I can think of some long walks out of the dove fields and grouse coverts where a sling would nice. Where I come from we need to drag our larger game out and the sling on the rifle makes this easier.

I put an AKAH sling on my Beretta 471 Silverhawk. I do enjoy using it to carry the gun from rabbit covert to rabbit covert in the Fall & Winter as carrying in the ready position is not necessary.

Thanks for the input. The Swivels are the wide U.S. type and I will have them installed on the RBL.I also have them on a German 12 ga. shotgun,a "Foresters "combo and Spanish side-lock.I am not wild about them on the shotguns but they are ok on the 16/9.3x72R combo.

I have pointing dogs that I use for wild birds and field trials. I have a FN 12 SxS with sling swivels and a Kebco strap and quick connect swivel links from New England Arms. It is very handy to be able to hang the gun on the shoulder and do some task with the dog like removing cactus, removing sand burrs, taking a bird, repositioning if they don't hold on "Whoa", giving them water etc...
I think the sling is very handy.
Best,
Mike
