Shopping the 1908 Sears reprint catalog and thinking about the anticipation and excitement of receiving a gun via the mailman.
I was a bit too young to experience this myself, but remember, as a little kid, ogling over the Sears or Monkey Wards catalog gun section.
What was it like for the mailman to bring you a gun? Or did you have to go and pick it up at the Post Office?
Memories?

I remember as a little kid in the 70's my mother ordering a gun for my father from Sears and Roebuck as a Christmas gift. It was a Winchester rifle, he still has it to this day. I'd swear it came straight to the house. I remember her unpacking it and showing it to me before she stashed it in her closet.

I still get guns in the mail, the last one was a custom Mauser in 338-06!

The Gun Control Act of 1968 pretty much put an end to the Interstate traffic in guns unless you had a FFL. There are exceptions to this general statement but that's basically the way it's been since then. Jim

A few days ago the mailman brought me a parcel from Germany. I had to sigh for it but that was all. Inside were two revolvers. And I'm not a dealer, just a private gun owner. So I guess there are a few good things about European Union afterall. With kind regards, Jani

I got a gun in the US Mail yesterday and I am sending two USPS today. I don't do much with guns less than 50 years old so my C&R covers that. When I returned from overseas in 69 I ordered my first Superposed from the Sear in Boulder Colorado. Of course that was a long time ago in a country far far away.

First gun I ever received came Railway Express from Hunter Arms. It was a .43 Egyptian Rolling Block. I was an excited kid and well remember going into town to the depot and seeing my package waiting for me. Oh how times have changed!

If this Rolling Block had been made prior to 1898 it could still be shipped directly to you today without any license being required. Jim

I had many guns come to the house before the GCA of 68. The very last--delivered just before it took effect was a Specialty Grade LC Smith single barrel trap gun. I believe I paid $425 for that fine specimen. Just before that one was a nifty little Model 12 20ga. with a straight grip stock and shipped by USPS from Maine for the princely sum of $105!!! It's fun to think back............
