Guys, What would it cost to finish out the NID in the white. $795 to start, wood $500-800? Will the reciever have to be case hardned? Barrel blueing yourself? I would love to build a 410.

The short answer is a lot of money. If you can locate a stock from Boyd's custom gunstock, it would be appox. 250-300 in nice wood. Having someone head it up and finish it will run approx. 500 plus. If you have to do a custom stock its going to run approx. 3000.00. barrel blueing = 200.00. Case hardening = 500.00. I did a custom gun project this year. You have to real careful and know where you stand before you launch into it, or it will eat you alive. It can be rewarding, but will not be cheap.-IM

And then when you are finished you will have a gun that is worth, what?
$1,500?
On the other hand if you are wanting the satisfaction of taking on such a project, the final value may not matter.

Let's see I have a buddy builds knives so he has a forge. I don't know a stock man so how many blanks will I mutilate before I get it right. The blueing I've done once? But a project is a project.

Problem is that it cost more than the gun is worth when you are done. NID .410's are not cheap but a stock job, fitting and finishing the gun will run several thousand dollars. On top of that the NID kit guns were not of the highest quality. Some claim that they were parts rejected or left over when ICD folded. The ones I have seen have been a little rough and I suspect the final product will leave much to be desired.
That said, if you are going to sink that much money and time into a gun like this you need to make it as high grade gun as you can. If you make it a grade 1 project you will have $2-3-4,000.00 in the gun. Spend another $1,000 and get it engraved and maybe a little gold work and make into a grade 4-5-6-7. Only way to justify the investment.
You can find .410 grade 1 guns with decent finish for less than you are looking at. You could restock it and reblue the barrels and still be cheaper than your new gun project. Beware of the fixxer uppper and a kit gun is certainly one of those. MONEY PIT. You will need deep pockets if you need to have other do the work.

That's the reason I asked the question. Thanks all.

I believe all the .410 and 28ga kits went in the first week or two of sales. All that Galazan had advertised lately was 20g kits.

These Galazan kits require a real professional to assemble them into something usable. The barrels need to jointed to the action and the internal parts all need to be fitted. It is a skilled labor intensive project and the costs of building a gun from these kits will far outstrip it's final value.
