I am in the market for a single shot - and while I would rather have a real High Wall - their price precludes it - what do y'all think about the Miroku copies ? How do they compare to the Ruger ? TIA

Rockie, I looked at that Winchester/Miroku Model 1885 saddle ring carbine in .30-40. Itis a pretty neat little rifle and the price is right.

Don - where did you hear about American Gun Limited ? Are they legit ?
I'll check out the C Sharps also.

American Gun Co. is a sister company to McGowan Rifle Barrel Co., no longer owned by Harry McGowan. My understanding is that they are using castings from Shiloh Sharps' foundry for their actions.

Don, if that hiwall Win/Miroku saddle ring carbine is the one with the 16" barrel it is a dreadful little rifle, balefully noisy and a nasty kicker with that musket buttplate.

I recently saw one of the Miroku/Win "saddle carbines" in .45-70. If ever a rifle deserved to be called a "single shot," that is it--one shot and it will go on the wall or in the safe forever! Many folks can't stand the recoil of a .45-70 Ruger #3, which has a lot more meat on it than this Japanese job. (There's a reason "real" Win 1885 carbines are mostly .44WCF or smaller....it's called physics).

Mike, when I worked in the nuclear power industry we had a saying, "The stupid will be punished!" Sounds like we need to keep our eyes peeled for such a mental giant's first shot, could probably buy the rifle cheap for a donor action! Regards, Joe

Y'all are right, the .45-70 in a Ruger No.3 is bad news for recoil! The Winchester saddle ring carbine would be worse. I have a Ruger No.3 on .30-40 that is not bad at all. The .30-40 in the Winchester might be OK, but it's really the wrong caliber for that little rifle and certainly the .45-70 is wrong.
