Anybody know who these guys are? Background etc. They are suddenly all over Gunsamerica with a lot of pricey guns. There is also a big ad for them in Sporting Classics.

I asked the same question a few weeks ago and I didn't find anything out. I did ask via e-mail about the stock measurements on a gun and they got back with the information. I then asked for some lighter pictures as the ones that they had for the gun I was looking at were quite dark. The sales guy said he would do that right away. That was two weeks ago and nothing. I forgot about that gun.

I know this doesn't help much but it's all I got.

That's a pretty broad question since there are many Master Gunsmiths around the country, and each may have a slightly different set of skills depending on what you want and/or need to have done.

There are a couple in the mid-west, but their schedules are ususally booked far in advance. That means if you don't have enough time left in your life to order green bananas you may find it difficult to schedule.

If no one is giving you word of mouth references, you could go to the American Custom Gunmakers Guild web site and ask - http://www.acgg.org/learn.html

It sounds to me like a guy or guys, that got out of the market or banking business, with a lot more than the shirt on their back, and decided to get involved in a business where the prices of goods has a tendency, [at least until now], to increase in value???

Did you read the article on the Purdey hammer gun.

Here's what the author Robert Matthews in Sporting Classics had to say about fine hammer guns.

"I know nothing, short of the human female form, that combines elegance, grace and beauty, or vibrant response to human touch so well as a fine double gun with hammers. This I can no more explain than I can explain the timeless beauty of the Venus De Milo, or Elle McPherson. But few of mans creations so obscure the boundary between sensuous and sensual."

In an attempt to clarify: I was not asking who good/wonderful/excellent gunsmiths are. There is a new purveyor of fine guns by the name of "Elite Gunsmiths" and I was asking who they were. Based on Mr. Boyd's reply above, this new dealer is owned or managed by a salesman or possibly a principal of Dewings in West Palm Beach, which went out of business several months ago. Presumably the pricey guns which he offers for sale are part of the inventory or, more likely consigned goods, formerly offered for sale by Dewings. By the way, does anybody know anything of note about Dewings, other than they went out of business?
