Mike, I can almost taste that coffee of Steve's. Don't pop my bubble.
Are we going to get together and scout a bit?

Blue quail will be scarce around Artesia due to lack of early spring rains IMHO

Here is the checklist that has worked for me for years!
1. Gun
2. Shells
3. License
I think as all the rest as "extras".

I think as all the rest as "extras". Depends where you are going and what you are hunting. We usually drive 5 hours to get to our spots, and the one time we needed to call for a tow truck, the tow company told us we were on our own because we were so far out. Two weeks ago in AZ, it was 116 on Saturday and then rained about 2 inches on Saturday night. Can be a strange combination of conditions if you are not set up for them.

I'm getting ready to drive 3 days one way. My past experience tells me I need more than a gun, shells and license. Where's my dog, truck, icechest, vest, clothing, boots, hat, dog food, water, jackets, etc.? That's just the basics. Toss in some emergency stuff for the truck, the dog and people along with some niceties and extra guns and all those extra vests and hats and you got a truck full.

Guys, dont misunderstand. There are a truckload and boatload of "EXTRAS". These are the essentials.

Chuck H., send me an email at g.armstrong@hvcc.edu and we can figure out schedules. I've been seeing coveys all over the place out in the Santa Ana Mtns. and down by Laguna, but those are in non-hunting areas (Irvine Ranch Preserve, Crystal Cove State Park and adjacent preserve). Coveys seem small, but not tiny (7-9 ave) but I'm probably missing some in the cover. The rangers all say that quail have made a comeback since the coyotes have et up the feral cat population.

I have reliable intel that the Colorado River Indian reservation on the other side of Blythe has good quail (Gambels) populations. It opens Oct 4. The license for the reservation is $75.

That corkscrew must be a new way of getting a stuck wad out of the barrel??? That's what you told the wife?
