Hello,
I've owned this Sauer for a few years now and would like to know when it was manufactured and model number. I hunted grouse with it this year and it peaked my interest in knowing more about this neat shotgun. I'm new to the site and will try to post some photos (couldn't figure it out, I have them in my picture files??) I guess an idea of its value, if possible, would be nice as well?
It is a 16 gauge, 2 1/2 chamber with 29 1/2 inch barrels, Serial No. 220711, barrels are almost like new inside and out, sidelocks breach and trigger guard have moderate amount of engraving and show some patina and very little to no case hardening.
Thank you in advance,
Larry
Here is a chart of serial numbers from Raimeys post but will need pics of barrel and action flats as well as a profile. Thanks
Thank you, I'll try and figure out how to add the photos.

You must use a service like imgur(several others)to copy to the image box. I’m no expert but someone will come a long shortly to help you post pics. We all enjoy seeing these guns. Thanks
I added a leather butt pad to it not knowing if this was period or location correct.
Very nice Sauer hammergun. One of the Sauer guys will be along to give you a model number, soon I’m sure. Nice gun and in great looking shape!
Modell Nr. 1 if the Greener Crossbolt is absent & Modell Nr. 2 if the longarm wears the Greener Crossbolt. Looks to be one of the very last Modell 1 or Modell 2. Consensus was that the end of WWI saw the last of Modells 1 & 2 but I would put this one between 1919 & early 1923.

Too it wears the Sauer Shooting Performance Crown. Interesting that the Wildmann is on the forward lump.

I wouldn't mind see a better image of this area and the marks.

So being this has the cross bolt I'm assuming it is a Model 2? Not sure what a wildman is?
The gun is in incredible condition, bores shiny like new, very little wear on the bluing, patina (I guess) on the lock plates, very few lite dings on the wood.
Thank you very much for your help and any further information you may have would be greatly appreciated.
What is the encircled stamp?
The mechanic >>MM<< looks to have done the heavy lifting on this one?

Could you pleasure us with a foto of the muzzle?

Sauer Serial Number 221,500 was completed on February 24th, 1924 so the subject longarm just may have been completed in 1923, being one of the last Sauer Modell Nr. 2 produced. The Modell Nr. 2 was in the 1907 Katalogue but was dropped henceforth.

lovely Ivory bead, but I had thought there might have been a menacing muzzle, but alas not.

Wildmann w/ a staff being the trademark filed in Belgium for the Krupp tubes made by Liège mechanics.
On the fore lug, I am not sure what that represents less just ID and advertising?
But on the flats, those Wildmann stamps are process marks.

Would you mind defining "menacing muzzle"?
>>Menacing Muzzle<< on a Drilling.

i stumbled onto a very similar sauer last spring at a local gunshow....seller was walking it around, and about to leave. we talked for a few minutes, but he had no practical knowledge of the gun, having recently bought it from the widow of a wwII veteran who had brought it back from germany (?). configuration of my gun appears identical to larry's....but mine is much earlier....#69,747 (?) which would indicate 1898 production.
weight, 6lb 4oz, chokes are .012 & .022, with bores marked 16/1....and measures to be in proof, but the barrels are lightly pitted in the forcing cones. gun is also a bit off the face....but otherwise in surprising condition, showing little evidence of use. it has the second crown stamping, as well as the wildman on the projecting lump, but it is set in a silver oval. what is most interesting is the fact it was built as a two barrel set....and the 16x16 barrels are the second number. based on what i can find, i suspect the first numbered barrels would have likely been 16x43mauser....sadly, of course, they are long gone. i believe it to be a modell nr. 4, due to second barrel set.
i intend to visit phillip crenwelge in the near future and see what he can do with it, it would be a lovely shooter.
best regards,
tom
