Hi,

Getting ready to appraise a cape gun for a friend. Haven't laid hands on it yet. I believe it is 16 gauge shotgun. Don't know the rifle caliber yet. It has been described as a heavily engraved boxlock. It supposed to be pristine and in custom wood case. I am seeking information on Carl Guntermann of Dusseldorf. I've found a variety of different types of guns attributed to this maker. I think he worked from 1840 to 1880. I found some guns under his name the post 1880. Did his company continue after 1880? Any information will be appreciated.

No Guntermann is listed in Der Neue Stockel. According to Stephan Rudloff of Düsseldorf his shop was closed in the middle 1930s.

Kind regards,
Jani

Tom,
As a "box lock", it is likely proofed. If you can post photos of the markings, we can give better information.
