A friend is casually looking at a Mauser sporter= converted to 30-06. 24" Shilen barrel, side safety (Buehler, Williams?) leupold scope mounts and a M8 6x42mm scope- std. walnut burl s[porter stock- NO checkpiece, gripped pg cap, checkered steel buttplate with trap- recessed sling swivels- rosewood foream tip )sans schnabel) Markings on receiver are 666Y4 F3 38 and Mauser Brno A.S. VZ.24 sorry, no fotos as of yet- Anyone care to eleborate- Oh, almost forgot- Timney Trigger.. RWTF
>>Mauser Brno A.S. VZ.24<< is a Mauser variant that was developed in Brno, Czechoslovakia based on the Mauser. It was more of a Karabiner based on the K98 and was made in the mid 1920s till the very early 1940s.

The German wartime G33-40 was the equivalent of the VZ 33. Both had lightening cuts that the Kar didn't have, and hollowed out bolt knob which the Kar also didn't have. Little known but important, the side walls and bridge were thinner on the Vz33 and G33-40 than on the Kar 98. The Germans took over rifle manufacturing facilities in most countries they conquered.

I seem to have a thing for small ring Mausers. It probably got started when a dear friend, a superb gunsmith now departed, showed me the beautiful little hunting rifle he had built for himself. It was a 257 Roberts on a G33-40 action. I have a full stocked, double set triggered, spoon bolted 30-06 on a 98k action which is unbelievably accurate and a 98k sporter in 9.3x57 built in wartime in Germany for the Scandinavian market, I did have a 7x57 carbine I built for myself on the latest made of the 98k actions a post war (WWI) Polish.
Believe the K98 w/scope was the weapon carried by actor Ed Harris in the WW2 era sniper movie "Sniper at the Gates".. Southpawed sniper in the 2nd Rangers, portrayed by actor Barry Pepper, always seemed to be changing scopes on the 1903-A4 he carried, not impossible for a lefty to operate a BA rifle, heck, my son-in-law does it with his Remmie 700 30-06 scoped deer rifle.
