I recently acquires a Meffert Hubertus Dural Titan drilling from 1937.

Does anyone have any info on the Titan Model? This drilling has all the upper end features (horn trigger guard, rifle extractor, engraving) someone kindly added a shoulder pad at some point...

Is there any info on the Dural model? The GGCA Meffert brochure is from the 20's.

Also, the finish is unique on the finish and the barrel si stamped 8x57JR. Any insights into the type of finish and the timing of the 8x57JR stamp would be appreciated.

I have a Meffert from the 30's, non dural that looks similar, with an identical front sight and without the rib texture.

I feel ignorant here, is that DRGM on the reciever? When did that start?

I'm fairly confident that the DRGMs began in 1877 with the DRPs, but I can't say the date of the 1st sporting arm with DRGM. Duraluminium, or Dural for short, were a version of the leichtmetallgewehre which were on the average 10 oz less than their steel counterparts. Titan looks to have its origins in the mid 1920s on airguns, sporting arms, etc. and probably used up until WWII. Some of the drilling adverts you've seen seem to indicate some upper rung variety of "total" safety. The Imman. Meffert firm typically didn't heavily adorn their sporting arms and their motto was that they could turn out 3 production versions to 1 adorned one.

Hi Raimey,

while the German Patent Law came into force in 1877, the Law regarding "Gebauchsmuster" (=utility model = DRGM) came into force on 1st October 1891. I don't know, which is the earliest sporting gun incorporating an invention protected by a DRGM, but Sauer's DRGM No. 223 of 1st October 1891 is hard to beat.

although I am not sure for 100%, the DRGM mentioned on the receiver could be DRGM No 1379234:



As the Abbreviation “DRGM” appears on the receiver together with the word “Sicherung” (safety), DRGM #1379234 could match.

Said DRGM was filed by Meffert on 12. May 1936; it was registered on 8. July 1936.

Martin, with you of course being an authority on patents, I thank you for the correction. There must have been a world of DRGMs from 1891 to 1900. Quite a find on that 1936 Hubertus novel addition/composition/invention. That safety addition as found in the advert would pair well with the DRGM.


This was leaked our of GGCA files being a 1937 advert, I think.

How do you know this fine looking gun has the aluminum alloy receiver- surprised none of you suggested the obvious- try a magnet- sure fire test indeed. RWTF

No magnet is needed here. "Dural." (on bottom of receiver) = Duraluminium = alluminium.

ya- das ist Korrekt- I missed it, but it is inscribed on the bottom front edge of the receiver- so this is a Duralumin receiver gun-- verrrry interesting!!
