Your first link is to an article about a scientist who states that Whites, on average, are more intelligent than Blacks. I said that too. But there were no statistics showing that the cause of that gap was in their DNA and not in their culture in that article.

Your second linked article says that someone stated that the average White was more intelligent than the average Black and that his statement pissed people off. Again, no statistics that show that the gap was caused by genetics and not by culture.

Your third linked article was to a White Supremacist webpage. But no statistics in that article showing that the cause of lower black average intelligence was DNA and not because of culture.

Mike, not only are there many blacks who are more intelligent than you or I, there are many of those more intelligent blacks who were raised in single parent households with drug abusing mothers and little nurturing. Look at Dr. Ben Carson's childhood as an example. Considering his achievements and despite his disadvantages, I'll bet he didn't need affirmative action to get into Med School with a 2.5 GPA. while white classmates needed a 3.85 or better GPA and a daddy who donated thousands to the school. The reason is that raw intelligence, problem solving, mechanical or verbal aptitudes, etc. is mainly an inherited genetic trait. But it was invaluable to have a mother who didn't subscribe to being a victim on the Democrat Plantation. Early nurturing and development of a child certainly helps to maximize what is innately there, and that is why a person of average intelligence may outperform or become more successful than a Mensa Society member. But the Mensa will still have a higher measurable I.Q., and it won't matter what color he is. Nurture may help to boost the score a few points, but nature is the greatest contributor.

The Nature vs Nurture debate is hundreds of years old. It is Nurture that makes the biggest impact, Experimental Psychologists found that out in the early to mid 20th Century.

In general this situation arises when engaging people with poor education or poor comprehension or analytical skills.

In this topic he is responding to challenge presented to him in another section of this forum. It is hard to say whether conclusions presented come from well designed studies with sound and appropriate statistical analysis. Trying to analyze what is presented is pretty much pointless because very few use their brains to anywhere near their maximum capability.

Mike, I gave you some examples such as the success of Dr. Ben Carson. There are plenty of people who were raised in similar circumstances of poverty, disadvantage, and lack of nurturing who have excelled because they had and used an innate ability. Ben Carson admitted that he almost went down the wrong path when he tried to stab someone at age 15. That doesn't mean he had a low I.Q. that magically changed. All it means is that he might have been the smartest cleverest felon on the cell block of State Prison. I don't really have time to produce links that would possibly prove my contention to you this evening, but the information is there if you care to look on your own. Neither have you shown us any links proving your opinion.

I don't believe the Soviet style indoctrination that dominated King Brown's life lowered his inborn I.Q. any appreciable amount, if at all. If you are really good at it, it would not surprise me a bit if you inherited the traits of good business sense and mechanical aptitude. I am also employed in the skilled trades and have 3 journeyman cards, and I've noticed that those who excel very often have fathers, grandfathers, uncles, etc. who just had the natural ability to solve problems and fix things. Due to things like quotas and affirmative action, I have also seen people get into trades and go to school and have people bend over backwards to help them, and they couldn't find their own ass with both hands after years of training and experience. I'll bet you've seen the same and possibly even employed some.

About 10 years ago, a good friend about 10 years older than me told me that he had a son that he hadn't seen in over 30 years. I had known him and worked with him for 15 years and didn't even know he had a son. He had went through a nasty divorce and actually won custody of his infant son in 2 different states, but his ex kept kidnapping the boy and moving to another state. After a lot of heartache and money, he took the advice of an aunt and just let the kid be with his mother in Florida, giving up a third custody battle, and he totally lost contact and told me he didn't even know where he lived. A few years later, the kid, now a grown man, showed up at his house because he wanted to meet his Dad and also wanted to see for himself if he was all the rotten things his Mom claimed he was. Although they had zero contact since the boy was a year old, it was uncanny how similar their lives were in so many different ways. The mother hadn't told the boy anything about his Dad except that he was no damn good. He told us that his Mom wouldn't tell him anything about his father at all. He didn't know that his Dad owned an Auto Body Shop, was into rebuilding engines and building street rods, and was addicted to collecting old Corvettes. But he also owned a Body Shop, and had the exact same automotive interests, the same political views, and even their dislikes were the same. They remained close until my friend died at a very young age, and he was pretty pissed that his Mom had been so dishonest about his Dad and had kept them apart. We had a lot of conversations afterwards as I helped him and the family locate old Corvettes, cars, street rods, and engines and parts that my friend had stored in a 3 county area because he was hiding his automotive addiction from his second wife. The more I talked to him the more amazed I was at how similar their lives were. They couldn't have been more alike if they were identical twins raised together.

Not dead sure nature vs nurture has been proven either way. What I do know is my ex and I have given my son every advantage possible in terms of early development. Despite a divorce he has parents who both pay attention and agree on the best course of action 19 times out of 20. Who have always been tremendously involved in his life. And who both demonstrate and expect high standards of behavior. And at age 10, attending what is arguably the best private prep school in Canada, he is excelling in academics, in social skills and involvement, in arts and he is nothing if not enthusiastic about athletics. (You can tell I'm a proud papa!).

But if I had to have make a choice, I think he'd be a long way there even if both of his parents had behaved very differently. He has been this way since the get-go.

Now, I know this is not statistically proving anything. But he arrived smart. Maybe, under different circumstances, he might have used those smarts for different and unsavory purposes....he still might. But if the discussion is about IQ, while I think both contribute, I think nature plays the greater role.

Life outcomes however, usually have little to do with innate intelligence as measured by IQ. Life outcomes statistically are what's affected by nurture. By role models, caring and loving parents who demand excellence and demonstrate daily, by their own behavior, how to be a good, productive person.

So jOe blathering on about substandard genetics as being the cause is kind of pointless. Except as it makes clear to us his own biases. If Americans want to solve the racial divide in America today (a staggeringly difficult proposition) it will come about by changing the life circumstances of millions of people of both white and black ancestry.

With all due respect James; Lyndon Johnson's "Great Society" programs were supposed to accomplish just that. 50 years later and untold TRILLIONS of dollars and nothing of any real value has beeen accomplished. I suspect in my job I worked with and was around blacks as much or more than anyone on this website. Some of the best friends I've had in life were black.

But that didn't change the fact that I never knew a black person that wasn't a racist....they all want to play like they're not racist but when called out on anything they all revert claiming race had something to do with me crawling their azz when they couldn't or wouldn't do their job.

I walked up on three blacks at work having the racist talk...I asked them to give me an example of how someone had treated them in a racist kind of way. The examples they offered were comical to say the least.

But we are talking averages. I have realized that, in my town, many of the Blacks don't know how to read and that many of them read poorly. If my wife and I had raised their kids from babyhood to eighteen their kids would have scored higher on IQ tests, SAT tests, and 8th grade standardized tests, than they would had their birth parents raised them. And they would have been more intelligent in mechanical aptitude and other "non academic tests"..

Had those same illiterate blacks raised my son from babyhood to eighteen he would have scored lower and been less intelligent and less mechanically able.

So culture has an effect on intelligence.

In respect to the gap between Blacks' average intelligence and Whites' average intelligence, culture matters.

To know that the cause of that gap was genetic a researcher would have to have a large control group of Black babies, raise them in average black households, and then compare them to large control group of Black Babies raised by excellent parents.

The recent murderous events in Charleston at a Church bible study raise a few questions. The killer was alleged to have made comments about why he was killing. “You rape our women and you’re taking over our country. And you have to go.” according to one survivor. It sounds like what most folks would agree is a “hate” crime. If it is indeed a “hate” crime, was this “hate” “natured”or “nurtured”? Did he sit around the supper table with a parent who constantly blamed blacks for the trouble in America, saying that they were genetically inferior to whites, should be sent back to Africa, should get down on their knees and thank whites for bringing them to America (in slave ships), that Africans never made a watercraft bigger than a canoe or dugout, lived in nothing but mud huts, etc. (Anyone else still shaking their head about "some of my best friends were black" comment?) Did the killer constantly cruise white supremacy websites, finding articles like the one in jOe’s first post? Did the killer have a male uncle or other male role model feeding him hate? I suppose someone out there will blame the “Soviet influenced Democrats” for what happened, despite the fact that lynch mobs in the South were documented before the Bolshevik Revolution when more than a handful of blacks were hoisted by the neck with a rope over a limb by white vigilantes for “defiling” white women. jOe, while we are on the subject, were your attitudes about white supremacy, Blacks and Jews “natured or nurtured”, honed on the internet, or learned at torchlight rallies? And really, jOe, is my pointing out that there are poverty and illiteracy in white Appalachia an attack on my own race?
