THese have been spoken for. Thanks!

I tried to post a picture but I don't currently have a photo host. But what are Winchester sling swivels going for these days? I received an extra set when I purchased my M-71. My reading indicates they were used on the 71 Deluxe as well as the M-70's. As always, I am happy to be corrected.

Thanks for any input!

Hi Hoot,

I looked at sold prices on ebay, the swivels go for about $140-$170,

Yeah I’m kicking myself for passing on a pair at $90 in an auction Sunday. It wasn’t a pass as much as a “forgot”. Part of the issue for me is I only need one.

WOW! I had no idea. Didn't think to check eBay but note they are thin on the ground on GB. If there is interest here, I would make them available, with payment to Dave, of course.

They are referred to in the collector world as "Winchester Super Grade Swivels". They are made in at least two widths, 1" and 1 1/4". I am a couple short, but I think I will remain that way.

I'm not sure what width these are but can measure for sure. If you need/want a pair, I'd make you a decent deal. PM if you are interested.

Just an FYI... there are counterfeit Super Grade Swivels out there... the give away is the fit of the shaft (it's oversized). [Linked Image from i.imgur.com]

There are also engraved Super Grade Swivels(German? Griffin & Howe?)...[Linked Image from i.imgur.com] [Linked Image from i.imgur.com]

Thank you. I did not know that. Unfortunately, I put them in the mail to their new home yesterday. If they do turn out to be fakes, of course I would gladly make things right.

Um, I remember seeing a Herter's catalog from the 50's, if memory serves correct, where these swivels were cataloged, they were also used on some Marlins as well.

I think the repros that were sold several years ago were indistinguishable from originals. I'm not sure of that. Does anyone know?

I have an extra set of repros in a drawer or on a spare sling.
The finish and pin diameter-along with the actual metal used is different. I think I have 3 original sets on slings.

The rest are from Super Grades or Deluxe Model 71s. A 450 Alaskan Deluxe/Special Model 71 wears them here.
Surprisingly, I have owned Model 71 Standard Grades equipped with eyes for the detachable sling-fitted just like SGs or Deluxe models.
Winchester did not always stick to their own rules at the factory. The SG swivel sets are far and away better than any commercial swivels made to support a rifle in the field.

I too have seen Model 71s and Model 70s in standard grade with Super Grade swivel bases. I'm sure they were a $2.50 option in past times. I may check in Rule and Whitaker for evidence of a factory option. A prewar or early postwar dealer catalog with an extensive option list does not mention these bases.
