So I have stalked this one about every 6 months for 2.5 years at a local shop. Finally got them to go for my offer, but I think the thing got worse sitting there... I remembered it a little better all around (or daydreamed it...)
.303 Savage 26 inch Octagon. I may have to penny auction it on the old Gunbroker... or use it to plug an old whitetail this fall...

Extremely nice!

The checkering really helps with those mile-long panels behind the action.

Is that a pigeon?

I’m jealous!Much nicer than my .303 Savage 1899s, one with flat butt plate from first year of production and the other with curved butt plate and post 1908 action. Both plain round barrelled guns that shoot better than I can.

Condition wise on yours, the only thing I can see wrong is the honest carrying wear at the point of balance from the horny/sweaty paw of the original owner.

Keep it, enjoy and I wish I could be with you when you go after that whitetail. It won’t know what has hit it.

There are people who can get rid of that brown stuff on the receiver and make this gun look outstanding. Wow. Whitetail? How about pigeons under the bridge on a back road. Obviously the original owner had that in mind.
