I'd say this is pretty high praise for the Ruger falling block action. Probably built to order for a client, but impressive to me anyway.

Wow. That's going to kick a bit. 480 grains at 2,150. Almost 5,000 foot pounds of energy. I think at least 9 1/2 pounds would be much better.

Yeah, that will get your attention. My good friend has a Watson brother's sidelock single shot chambered .450 3&1/4" ne and it weighs 8&1/4 lbs, I have shot it and it is a real handful. I'm sure this one is too.

You would think for 22k you would get a new trigger and safety. BV-1= ~$15,000, restock and rebarrel extra!!

I agree

You would also think that a firm such as Barnett would know enough to turn the screw of the right side of the action to its proper aligned position before they took a photograph. It makes them look like a bunch of amateurs. However, they are not the only gun dealer that does not pay attention to detail in the photographing of their guns.

Correct. The right side pin is indexed by a small pin in the recess. Not sure how they got it to seat but bet its ugly on the other side.

I don't know how to figure the recoil but I used to shoot a Ruger #3 in .45-70 for fun with 500 gr. jacketed bullets at 350 fps less than a .458 Win. Mag. I am going off memory but I think that was around 1800 fps. I only shot it offhand, eschewing the bench with that little lightweight gun, but I found the recoil to be fun, actually. Muzzle flip was "showy", too. I can't recall what it weighed, but it was definitely light. It was replaced by a No. 1 in the same caliber, which I still have.

Stan,

This table will show the difference in recoil Rifle Recoil. The recoil energy of a 45-70 is 37.9; the 500/465 is 60.7. It doesn't give the recoil velocity for the 500/465 for comparison.
