I think all of us hope to find a custom rifle for a bargain price. I was following this rifle on gunbroker.
I like the way that the stock was done. I tried to get more pictures from the seller, but they were really
uncooperative and I ended up not bidding. I thought it would be interesting to discuss this rifle. Maybe someone can identify the maker.

looks like a good deal to me. Nice stock shape, barrel contour and the early Lyman 48 does not hurt. Better pics would tell a bit more. I'm curious as to the action, caliber and what the grip cap and buttplate look like.

The grip and comb have a bit of a Dubiel look to them, but never seen a Dubiel with a schnabel.

I second SKB's wishes for more detailed pics. And I agree someone may have picked up a nice rifle for a sleeper price.

Could it have been a common commercial FN? European features are often seen on these later FN guns. Not that an FN commercial wouldn't be a good buy at that price, but not an extraordinary bargain, depending on caliber. Not common, but some FN Mausers have claw mounts, multi leaf sights, and other neat features.

Possible, but early style lyman 48 makes it seem a little less likely. Also I would more likely expect Commercial FN to have caliber marking. Really not much to go on with the terrible pictures.

Did FN make commercial small ring actions? I do not think so.

They did most commonly seen on browning high powers but those rifles are pretty scarce. Does seem like an interesting rifle for sure.

Yes, some of the early Browning High Power .308s and .243s were on small ring FN M98s, before they used Sako actions for those calibers. At least they were SR externally, I have heard that they were also true small thread, but some claim that they were large thread simply ground to small ring externally. I have one in .308, but have not pulled the barrel to check. And those SR FN Brownings had the nearly flush bolt stop, this rifle does not. And the Brownings did not have the thumb notch, either.

The triggerguard looks like a kar 98 to me, which were small ring/large shank receivers. Of course that TG may not be original to the action.

Or it could be a small ring Mexican M98, the left receiver rail looks a bit higher than on a std. 98. Not sure if the early transitional Oberndorf commercial SR 98s shared that higher, angled "loading ramp" left rail, or not.

It is an nteresting rifle, anyway.

My probably not too old FN has three leaf sights, claw mounts, holes drilled for a 48, and single set trigger, and the caliber (30-06) is marked on the barrel. I would mount a 48 on it, but it already has the leaves and the scope. I wish I knew more about Mausers so I could participate in this discussion. No importer marks.

Looking through Michael's 2nd Volume, I wonder if it could be a Surkamer or a Worthen. I sure wish
that the seller would have sent on additional pictures.
