I have been working on providing a free and publicly available archive of some vintage gun-related books, magazines, and research.

I wanted to highlight some of what is already uploaded.
gun book archive

Dan H donated 2 Sedgley catalogs And today I uploaded over 500 pages from the guns and ammunition section of the Outer's book included are the articles on metamorphosis Springfield. I have not read all 500 plus pages so please share any other pre-war sporting info you find.

I have an older Stoeger's Anniv. issue I would donate-if you would cover the postage--shows a lot of the earlier pre-war rifles and shotguns in detail and with pricing and optional special order features-- RWTF

375whelenIMP,
You might check Keith Rucker's You Tube channel, Vintagemachinery.org.
He has a service similar to that you are setting up. Some while back he showed his method of copying old books, manuals, catalogs, etc., using a frame with two cameras, and it makes distortion free copies without damaging the spine of the books or having to take the pages out. It was very interesting and informative. You might find it helpful. Preserving this information is a very important goal, thanks.

I have a few Stoeger catalogs I plan on scanning eventually.

I have looked into a bunch of different options from commercial book scanners you can get on amazon to robust open-source options like https://diybookscanner.org/archivist/. These all require a huge amount of manual manipulation.

I did a trial run with one of the paid scanning services which produce a nice scan but cost roughly $100/12 150 page magazines.

From the same book as outer's I also have 500 pages of the gun section from Outdoor life and 200 pages from National sportsman. these are already scanned and I will be uploading them when I find the time!
Cutting the bindings off tattered copies is really all I have time for right now. I do have a few rare books that I will need to be scan with a nondestructive method.

Really great addition American Gunsmith Guild
1948 members guide book details dozens of gunsmiths working in the 1940s era.

Also added Outdoor America April 1926 less of a gun mag but a lot of really great good outdoor type content.
