I was hoping someone out there with a 360 BPE might be able to tell me what the twist rate is in your barrel. I have the chance to take on a project gun that I would like to have lined back to original caliber. I know I can get a 9.3 mm (.366 groove) liner, but don't know what twist rate would be correct for the 360 BPE. Also, if you could tell me the number of grooves your barrel has, that would be helpful as well.

Thanks

Flint, lemme check the twist for my little Outschar stalking rifle. I believe that's the one I own that was originally a 9.3 X 57R/360D, if I have the nomenclature correct and that is the same cartridge you're referring to. I believe they were the same, one the German designation and the other British, yes, no? Other than having the chamber lengthened to 62mm it is all original. A rate of 1-14 1/2 sticks in my head but I should check.

Hey Flint, I came up with a 1-15 twist so I wasn't far off. With a 200 gr. bullet it's a tack driver.

Perfect, that is what I was looking for. What kind of powder charge are you using for that 200 gr bullet if I might ask?

58 grs. of Fffg Scheutzen dropped through a 24 in. drop tube, a .030 over powder card then a pea sized grease cookie, another .030 card wad then seat the bullet, lightly crimped. Here's a group I fired with it at 100 yards, benched and bagged, open sights. First shot at the bottom edge of the target, second in the 5 ring at 7 o'clock then a last sight adjustment and 3 for group.

I don't like black powder, but you sure can't argue with groups like that.

What weight bullet are you planning to shoot? Most are 155 gr but my gun is regulated for the 190 gr bullet.

Oh come on Mike...you just gotta get your heart into it...lol! It is sort of persnickety stuff and more work than smokeless, with that I agree! I doubt I could consistently repeat that group but I'm convinced the rifle is capable. That one is a dandy, 5/8 in. for 3 shots at 100.

We all have bad habits, you have to decide if I mean you or me.

Vic,
Oh, I thought it was me since I seem to be the only one that doesn't like to use blackpowder.

Sir, is the 200gr paper patched as well or "nekkid"?

Edited to add: Nice shooting by the way!

Hey Hoot, it is a grease groove bullet, an Accurate Molds 365196B cast of 25-1 lead/tin. I want to try paper patching but have yet to flog myself to it. And thank you, even a blind hog finds an acorn once in a while!

The caliber was black powder as well as a smokeless. With bullets range from 124gr 155gr - 190gr,215grn up to 227gr. What is the Best suited bullet and velocity for this rifling.

Just have a question. How is a barrel liner put into a centerfire rifle? My research tells me that rimfire rifles are lined using epoxy but I somehow remember that epoxy is not used with heavier chamberings. Thank you.

9372,my Husqvarna 9.3x57R(360) rifles are also a slow twist and do well with a 175 grain bullet and a 196 grain bullet (both from Accurate molds).
