I am thinking about purchasing a Super Luxus Grade S2 - likely in 9.3 X 74R. Opinions based upon experience or even second hand knowledge much appreciated. Thanks, Slate

slate:

Thoughts on the cartridge, gun or both? Have you looked at "Thoughts on Drillings" from a day or so back?

Kind Regards,

Raimey, I have not yet read the other thread - will do so.
I am pretty well persuaded re the cartridge. I will hunt mostly Moose with the gun but may one day take it to a country in Africa. The 9.3 X 74 rimmed kind of fits my idea of what a mid weight animal cartridge should be. It is the gun that I am most interested in gaining critique. I have heard both good and bad but not from first hand "users". Thanks, Slate

For non dangerous game, it's fine. For anything that bites back, not so fine. The lump right over the barrels isn't condusive to quick reloading, and the gun (unlike anything else Blaser makes) doesn't recock automatically after reloading, so you have to push the cocker/safety forward each time. I currently own two Blaser rifles, and prefer them (R93's) over any other bolt, but I wouldn't go for the S2. The over under rifle is nice, and I've heard good things about the D99 - I just prefer to have a 12 ga. gun so I haven't gone for that one. The over under gun is a bit more versatile too, since you can get a cape gun set of spare barrels.

Thanks Steven, I doubt that I will ever get to Africa so dangerous game really not an issue but that aspect of the gun's non suitabiity bears consideration. Speaking of bears ( neat segway aye? ) they are the one animal that I am likely to run into but I have no interest in shooting one other than to protect myself or family. I believe that the 9.3 X 74 R with 286 grain bullet will work very well on one of them if called to do so - assuming I do my part. No the gun's main purpose would be the pursuit of big moose and perhaps eld and caribou. I have wanted a S X S rifle for this purpose for a long time. In evaluating different guns the Blaser S3 caught my attention as being fairly well thought out in design and the fit and finish seem to be very good. Thanks for your thoughts, Slate

There are things the S2 is good about. Everyone who's shot them (I haven't, only handled them at the NRA convention) says they're a bit more accurate than the typical double. I don't doubt that, Blaser rifles in general shoot extremely well. The decocking/cocking slide on the Blaser makes it super safe as well, though I prefer the way Krieghoff does it with automatic recocking. I'd have zero concern going after moose with it, and I wouldn't have an issue going after bear with it either. I just don't like the design for really dangerous, heavily built game.

I have a Blaser S2. And I am very keen of it. I use Lapua mega 285 gr home loaded. You can regulate the right barrel. But do not do that before you have regulated your sight for the left barrel. And do not change the bulletweight or charge.
Changing the charge to the weaker will make the left barrel shoot to the right and the right barrel to the left.As much as 10 inches changing to 232 gr
My advice: Choose your bulletweight and charge and stay there.
(It took me ½ a year to learn that)And you can shoot very precise with it

These look art nouveau to say the least. I'm anxiously waiting for thumbhole stock offering. I anticipate throwing some gold chains arond my neck prior to going hunting too. Oh yeh baaaaby!
