I recently acquired a drilling. that has the name A. Frohn, Suhl on the barrels It is a 16X16 with an unknown caliber rifle bbl. underneath (I am having a chamber cast made). My problem is I cannot find any info on A. Frohn. Can anyone out there help with finding out about this gunmaker?

John112,
It has been reported that Frohn was the developer of the well known target cartridge, 8.15x46R. Don't know if it was the same one or not. If you can post photos of all the markings, especially proof marks, we may be able to help you. Don't be surprised if Frohn wasn't the maker, but the retailer. This was common practice.

Yeah, he was born in 1839 & should have obtained his master mechanic's sheepskin by say 1863/1864 and then he hung out his gunmaking shingle in 1865. He looks to have retired or expired near WWI and an Adolph Reinhackle was @ the helm by 1913 & I would hazard a guess he was a relative such as a son-in-law or other.

Cheers,
