Are Hornady dies compatible with a RCBS Rockchucker press?

Absolutely

7/8 X 14 threads per inch is standard for the smaller dies. The presses usually have a bushing in for that and taking it out that opens it up to 1 1/4" and a 1" bushing is also available.

I have had two sets of Hornady .450 Nitro dies and purchased Jamison cases. I full length resized the cases in the dies and they absolutly will not fit in my .450 nitro 1902 Webley, .450 top lever hammer Purdey and my .450 Holland Royal Hammerless. Why? Be careful, they might only neck resize!

I had a similar experience with a H&H .500 3 1/4". I was sizing .500 3 1/4" Basic brass with an RCBS 7/8"x14 die. It appeared that the die wasn't thick enough at its base and that the web area of the case was spreading the die - thus, not being sized correctly. I bought a set of 1"x14 dies and presto! - problem solved.

Jamison had a bad run of 450 brass a few years ago, the body was not at the correct angle from the rim. My gun would not close on them, Jamison did replace them but indicate that they were within their own spec (fits in a Ruger Single Shot)

Steve,
I had a 7/8-14 set of 577-450 crack in the threads, also RCBS.
Yours may be cracked also( although they should be thicker). I am still able to use mine, necksizing is enough.

Buffalo Arms has "ample stock" of CH4D ,500 3" dies,4D 7/8 - 14. Anyone have experience with dies made by them?

The situation is that I can't find ANY .500 dies, I ordered a set from RCBS on June 5 and they're STILL on back-order. Can't find any Hornady either.

Ken, thanks for the heads up on the Jamison cases. I'll bet that is the problem. I couldn't figure it out as I have some boxes of original .450 3 1/4" BPE, .450 nitro for black and .450 nitro from Kynoch fit very easily in all 3 rifles. I will try to contact Jamison (although they are under new owners) to see if they will make good.

Thanks Ken, I called Jamison and they said they had a batch of .450 3 1/4" that were curved in a banana shape. Can't really see by the eye but you can tell if you roll one across the table. mine were curved and I sent them back to Jamison and they said they will replace them.
