I have an LC Smith part gun that has a decent set of barrels. Is it possible to have them rifled to make a slug gun?
Yes I know I would have to remover the ribs and regulate them. This would be easier than taking a set of Hastings barrel blanks, and attaching them to a mono-block. Anybody else ever try this?

Who would you suggest do the work?

I am not sure if there would be enough wall thickness to rifle a pair of standard shotgun barrels. What about a patched ball, a slug or a sabot?

Don't know if it's do-able with your bbls,,but I'd bet it has been done before.

The only one that come to mind that rebores and rerifles bbls that large is Bobby Hoyt.
His work is primarily (all?) in the black powder field but it's worth a call.

Contact him at 'The Freischutz Shop', 700 Fairfield Station Rd., Fairfield, Pa. 17320.
# 717-642-6696

No email or web. Strictly old school but among the best in the biz as far as the BP shooters are concerned.

Let the phone ring,,he'll get to it. Sometimes takes a little time with the machine(s) running.

He regularly rebores and rifles Muzzle loaders in the large calibers and gauges.
Makes bbls from scratch also.

Perhaps he can help with breechloading LCS bbls too.

Jerry,
That is not going to work out very well if you try it. First of all you would have to find someone who already had a 12 gauge rifling head for their rifling machine. Second, your barrels are probably too thin to be thinking about rifling, there is just not that much wall thickness on your average upland bird gun. The best solution is to cut off the barrels at 2.5 to 3 inches in front of the breach. Bore them straight following their natural convergence, and make yourself up a mono block out of those barrels and sleeve in two rifled tubes.
You will then have to regulate it and put some ribs on it, all very doable and not that hard if you take your time and study out what you are doing. You will need a lathe or access to one, and possibly a machinist if you are not up to turning the barrel stubs.
At least if you do it this way you can have a gun that is regulated to shoot two shots to the same point of aim, is strong enough to do the job, and capable of having rifle sights added to it. If you need barrels or a top rib, contact me and I'll set you up with the parts. Bob H.

Thanks Bob,

It is a project I am thinking about for the future. I have several project guns and parts. I was looking for ideas

There is a gunsmith in Darlington, South Carolina who rifles smooth bores into Paradox guns. He is the one who restored Nash Buckingham's "Bo Whoop" Fox shotgun. I can't think of his name right now.
